Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about buying, selling, and staying safe on Expult Cars
Start by browsing our listings — you can filter by make, model, year, price range, and location to narrow things down quickly. Once you find a car you're interested in, open the listing and use the Contact Seller button to message them directly or reveal their phone number, depending on what they've shared. From there you can ask questions, negotiate the price if it's marked negotiable, and arrange a time to view the car in person. We recommend always inspecting the vehicle and verifying its documents before agreeing to pay.
Create a free account, then click "Sell Your Car" from anywhere on the site to start a new listing. You'll add clear photos, your car's specs (make, model, year, mileage, condition, and more), and your asking price. Once submitted, your listing goes through a quick review before going live, after which buyers can find it through search and filters and contact you directly. Every seller gets free listings to get started, so there's no cost to try it out.
Every new seller starts with a number of free listings, so you can try out the platform before committing to anything. If you're a frequent seller or a dealer who needs to list more cars at once, our Subscription plans unlock higher listing limits along with other seller-focused features. You can check your current usage and upgrade at any time from your account settings. Pricing and plan details are on our Subscriptions page.
Safety is something we take seriously, and we've built protections into the platform — but no marketplace can fully replace your own due diligence when buying something as significant as a car. Always inspect the vehicle in person before paying anything, verify the logbook and ownership documents match the seller, and avoid sending money or making deposits to anyone you haven't met or verified. If anything about a listing or seller feels off, trust that instinct and walk away, or report it to us directly. Our full Safety & Security page covers what to check in much more detail.
Every listing page has a Contact Seller button — depending on what the seller has enabled, this either opens a messaging thread with them directly on Expult Cars, or reveals their phone number so you can reach them outside the platform. We recommend keeping the conversation on-platform where possible, since it keeps a record of what was discussed. If a seller isn't responding right away, try checking back later — listings can get a lot of interest, especially for popular makes and models.
"Foreign Used" describes a car that was manufactured and used in another country before being imported into Kenya — these make up a large share of the Kenyan car market. "Locally Used" means the car has only ever been registered, owned, and driven within Kenya since new. Neither is inherently better — Foreign Used cars are often well-maintained and can be more affordable for their age, while Locally Used cars may come with a more complete local service history. Every listing on Expult Cars clearly labels which condition applies, along with whether the car is registered with NTSA.
Yes — many sellers mark their listings as "Negotiable," which signals they're open to discussing the price. Once you've made contact through the listing, you can raise an offer directly with the seller through messaging and go back and forth until you reach a number you're both happy with. Keep in mind that negotiation is strictly between you and the seller — Expult Cars doesn't set or enforce prices, so the final amount is whatever you both agree on. If a listing isn't marked negotiable, it's still worth asking; sellers can choose to be flexible even if they haven't flagged it.
Your listing stays active and visible to buyers until one of three things happens: you mark the car as sold, you remove the listing yourself, or it expires after a set period of inactivity. We do this so the listings buyers see stay current and don't pile up with cars that are no longer actually for sale. If your listing expires before you've sold the car, you can relist it again at any time with a single click, and it goes straight back into active search results.
Stop the conversation and don't send any money, deposits, or personal financial information until you've verified who you're dealing with. Common red flags include sellers who refuse to meet in person, pressure you to pay before viewing the car, or ask you to use unusual payment methods. If you encounter a listing or seller that seems suspicious, report it to us through the Contact Us page with as much detail as you can — including the listing link and any messages exchanged — so we can investigate. Our Safety & Security page covers specific scam patterns to watch for in the Kenyan car market in more depth.
Expult Cars covers all 47 counties in Kenya, from major hubs like Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kisumu to smaller towns across the country. When browsing, you can filter listings by county to find cars that are actually near you, which makes arranging a viewing much more practical. Sellers can also specify their county and city when creating a listing, so location is visible upfront rather than something you have to ask about. Whether you're in a major city or a more rural area, you can both buy and sell on the platform the same way.
